Filesystem MCP Integration

Learn how to integrate a filesystem-based MCP with Cokpit

Filesystem MCP Credentials and File Upload

Step 1: Prepare Files for the MCP Filesystem Integration

Example: Local file or archive upload

  1. Prepare the file(s) you need to provide to the MCP service (for example, a configuration archive or package).
  2. Ensure the files are accessible from the environment where the MCP process will run.

Step 2: Add Filesystem Location to Cokpit (MCP)

  1. Open Cokpit and go to Integrations → Other → Filesystem (MCP).
  2. Click Add secret or Upload depending on the UI.
  1. Fill in the required fields:
    • Enter a unique Secret Name
    • Enter the Location (path) where files will be read from or the path to the uploaded file
    • Optionally attach/upload file content
  2. Click Submit.

Security Best Practices

  • Ensure filesystem paths are secured and only readable by the MCP process
  • Use access controls on servers where files are stored
  • Avoid storing secrets in plaintext files; use OS-level encryption or secret stores where possible
  • Audit access to filesystem paths used by MCP
