Jira Integration
Learn how to integrate Jira with Cokpit
Jira Credentials
Before You Start: Create a Jira Site (If You Don’t Have One)
If you don’t already have a Jira workspace/site, follow these steps:
-
Go to the Jira Cloud signup page:
https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira -
Click Try it free.
-
Sign in using your Google account or email ID.
-
Provide a Site Name (this becomes your Jira instance URL):
Example:
your-company.atlassian.net -
Choose Jira Software when asked for product selection.
-
Complete the setup process (this takes only a few seconds).
Once your Jira site is created, your Instance URL will look like:
https://your-company.atlassian.net
Step 1: Generate Jira API Token
- Log in to your Atlassian account at id.atlassian.com.
- Navigate to Security → API tokens.
-
Click Create API token.
-
Give your token a name (e.g., "Cokpit Integration").
-
Copy the API token - you'll need it in the next step. (API tokens are managed here: Manage API tokens — Atlassian docs)
💡 Tip: Store your API token securely. You won't be able to see it again after leaving the page.
Step 2: Add Jira Credentials to Cokpit
- Open Cokpit and go to Integrations → SaaS → Jira.
-
Click Add secret.
-
Fill in the required fields:
- Enter a unique Secret Name (e.g., jira-secret)
- Enter your Email/Username
- Paste your API Token
- Enter your Instance URL (e.g., https://your-company.atlassian.net)
-
Click Submit.
Usage Examples
Once configured, you can use Jira integration to:
- Create and update issues
- Track project progress
- Manage sprints
- Access project workflows
Security Best Practices
- Never share your API token
- Use dedicated API tokens for different integrations
- Regularly rotate your API tokens
- Review API token usage periodically
- Remove unused API tokens
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues:
- Verify your Instance URL is correct and includes 'https://'
- Ensure your email matches your Atlassian account
- Check if your API token has the necessary permissions
- Confirm your Jira instance is accessible
